Hobart S. Vincent (January 22, 1867 – June 20, 1922) was a civil engineer, mine manager and Mayor of Deadwood.  Vincent was born on January 22, 1867 in Pennsylvania and spent his childhood in Onawa, Iowa.  After receiving a public education, he attended and graduated from Shattuck Military Academy in Fairbault, Minnesota and received a degree in civil engineering.  In 1889 Vincent found work as a civil engineer for several railroad companies in the west including the Great Northern Railroad, Dakota & Pacific Railroad, and Chicago & Northwestern Railroad.  In 1897, at the age of 30, Vincent entered the private practice in Deadwood.  From 1905 to 1906, Vincent successfully promoted and developed the Redwater hydroelectric plant of the Black Hills Traction Company.  Fourteen years later, in 1911, Vincent became the site superintendent and manager of the Trojan Mining Company based out of Deadwood.  In 1918 Vincent ran for and was elected Mayor of Deadwood for one term.  While in office he oversaw the Spanish influenza epidemic and the 1919 coal strike.  On June 20, 1922, Vincent died at his home at 15 Washington Street in Deadwood and is interred in Section 10 Lot 82 in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
